Sorry for the delay and honestly the lack of posts.. Well actually the non-posting :o) Hopefully I will get back into the swing of things as I start to get caught up on sleep! Piper is almost 6 weeks old and she is growing like a weed already! She has added such joy to our family, I don't think any of us can imagine life without her. Luke has proven to be quite the doting big brother! Needless to day he is truly IN LOVE with his little sister! I foresee no boyfriends in her future, LOL!! Emma of course is also a GREAT big sister and loves her little sister so much (despite not wanting a sister to begin with, HA)..

Today my Aunt Kathie is turning the Big 6-0.. She doesn't look it at all and she certainly doesn't act it (that is meant in a good way).. She is a fabulous lady and truly an inspiration!! Happy Birthday Aunt Kathie! Wishing you the perfectly perfect day!!!

Our family will be expanding by one more in March 2011.. We had our first appointment today and everything looks great! I am about 7 weeks and 2 days pregnant and we got to see the little 'peanut' via sonogram! The actual due date is March 19th however we will have the baby at 38 or 39 weeks via c-section! We should know an exact delivery date by January!

We are all very excited and happy to add one more little one to our family!!

So for the last 8 or so years, Emma has been patiently waiting to ride Papa Jay's Harley!! If it were up to me, her Mother, she would have been on it years ago.....BUT her Memi decided that her rule trumped the fact that I am the Mother, so she had to wait until she was 13?? Well a couple of weeks before her 13th birthday (the week of Spring Break to be exact) Papa Jay, Memi and another friend of theirs showed up on the Harley's early one morning for a day trip.. Papa Jay already had Emma fully outfitted in Harley gear, from her helmet all the way down to her boots!! She was ready, not to mention VERY excited to hop on that Harley and CRUZ!!!!!!!!!

Emma becomes an official teenager (13, YIKES)

It is very hard to believe that Emma turned 13 this year! I don't know where the time has gone!! All I do know is the for the next 5 years I will be taking in EVERY little moment!! This year we celebrated with a skating party, which was a lot of fun.. She had about 9 or 10 friends show up and we had a small rink all to ourselves for 2 hours!

Spring Break/St Patrick's Day brought us out to Six Flags for the first time this season, and it was a hit for both the kiddos. Luke rode a few rides but mostly just enjoyed being outside and all the sights he got to see. He loved watching the roller coasters as Emma rode them.. Too bad the lines were crazy long, but that is what happens the week of Spring Break!!

So our last leg of the long trip (which has taken me even longer to post about, go figure) was to visit a high school friend of mine that I hadn't seen since 1993.. Long time, I know!! However, thanks to the fabulous yet addicting world of Facebook, I reconnected with Jen. Once we finalized our trip dates to the wonderful north, I sent her a message seeing if she would mind us popping in for a day or two.. She agreed, so we headed to Minnesota.. I was so excited to see her again, meet her gorgeous family and do a LOT of catching up. Since we were in the area, we just had to hit up the Mall of America but sadly I don't have any pictures of it. I didn't have my handy dandy Nikon and the pictures we took on the smaller camera were just not very good. Oh well, maybe next time. Jen was a gracious host and I even got to eat her famous homemade pizza, man was it YUMMY!! Her home is beautiful, her family is precious and she is a gem!! I am so glad to be back in touch with her!! It was a quick trip on Minnesota, but it was the icing on the cake for me!! Thanks Jen for putting up with us for a couple of days!! We really enjoyed spending time with you!!

Old friends!

Hello Madison, Wisconsin

I just want to start by saying that Bob and I are IN LOVE with Madison.. He even mentioned moving there to finish his Master's?? No specific reason to change colleges, just an excuse to move there...funny stuff!!

So back to the trip... We left St Louis, MO on Friday late morning and drove through Illinois (which was beautiful too, as a matter of fact I found a little town in Illinois that I would not mind living in either....Lincoln, Ill) and made our way up to Madison. We pulled into Don and Meredith's (Bob's brother and his lovely wife) driveway around 6'ish, just in time for dinner.. The whole family was outside waiting for us and it was so good to see them. Don and Meredith have 2 beautiful little girls, Nora(5) and Elsie(2).. Sweetest little nieces, love them!! So we unloaded a few key items and headed in to tour their home. They just recently moved (like within a month before we arrived) and their house is gorgeous, just perfect for them. Not to mention that it is nestled in the most beautiful neighborhood. When we first pulled in to the neighborhood I think my mouth hit the floor. I was surrounded by old tudor style homes everywhere. Now not all the homes where tudor style, but it is certainly not a "cookie cutter" (Nora loved this term while I was there, she would always try to point out "cookie cutter" homes to me, so cute) neighborhood, however a majority of the homes fit into the tudor style mold. Don and Meredith live in a more modern style home, but just as beautiful. Ok, I am so off track now..

So we get there, have dinner, unload, get beds situated, let the kids run wild, put them down, stay up late talking to Don and Meredith and plan our next days events. Bob, Don and Meredith are big fans of NPR (I like it too, just not as much as they do) and we found out that one of the shows (Whad'Ya Know) was in town doing a taping , so we decided to buy tickets and be in the audience. It was a really fun experience but a little difficult with two 2yr olds.. See it is a radio show, so we are not seen but heard and I am pretty sure it is taped live..... However, Emma did make it on the show at one point during audience questions...pretty cool. After the taping we decided to walk the downtown area. While walking to the capitol we came across the Farmer's Market that is held there every Saturday...had some yummy garlic cheese.. some delicious bread filled with cheese.. admired the outside and inside of the capitol and then realized that it was REALLY crowded on State Street which is where we had wanted to head. What we didn't know before hand was that annual summer sidewalk sale was happening that weekend, which gave Meredith and I a great idea for the next day :o)

Before this gets even longer than it already is, I will summarize.. We ate a lot of good food (cheese especially), took the kids to the zoo, toured the campus by car on a rainy day, built racks for Don's windsurfing equipment, played a lot, canoed one morning, had some yummy ice cream, shopped sidewalk sales, rode bikes everyday, enjoyed great weather (I was in heaven), played cards, talked, admired how well our children got along, went to the store a few times, took the van in because Walmart in Texas messed up big time, even did some laundry....but most importantly we made some really good memories with some really fun people!! We hope to do it again next year, and the year after that, etc!! :o)

We left Arlington at 6:30 am on Thursday, July 23rd headed for St Louis, Mo.. We knew that it was going to be a long day.. We decided to make it a long day so that we could spend some time in St Louis and so that our next trip to Madison, WI wasn't a long trip.. Luckily for me, Bob did a lot of the driving that first day.. so I read which made the trip seem short to me.. Of course when I did decide to take over the last leg of the driving it started raining and I despise driving in the rain.. I did manage (even with the random moments of fear thanks to lightning, again not a big fan) and we rolled into St Louis around 6:30pm that evening.. Once we got to St Louis it was great weather.

We decided to check into our hotel and then walk a little into the downtown area and find someplace for dinner. We were very impressed with how clean St Louis was, even though all the All Star baseball stuff had just left maybe the day or two before we got there.. We found a nice little park in the middle of downtown with a beautiful fountain and everything was so green and in bloom! After dinner we were going to walk over to the arch, but were side tracked by a horse and carriage.. Emma really wanted to ride in it and we decided that would be a great thing for her to remember. Luke wasn't too sure about it but he ended up loving it (it may have helped that the horses name was "Elmo").. The ride was only 20 minutes long but it was so worth it.. I got some great shots of the scenery, but the best part was seeing the pure joy on Emma's face. The lady let her ride up front with her and help guide Elmo through the streets. So FUN!!

After dinner we walked to the arch and it was beyond belief! If I am remembering correctly, it is 630 ft high and 630 ft wide.. WOW!! Of course we didn't stay long because I noticed lightning off in the distance and decided it was time to head back to the hotel.. The next morning we got up and walked back down to the arch. The weather was perfect, the sun was out, there were very few clouds in the sky and between Emma and I we captured the arch perfectly.. Emma had the great idea to lay on the ground and take pictures of the arch from that perspective, so she did.. Then Bob stood over her and they lined it up to look like Bob was holding the arch.. Of course we all had to have one like that!! Once we were finished at the arch we checked out of our hotel and started making our way up to Madison! Here are some pictures of our time in St Louis:

I can't believe that this is my "100th" post.. I apparently have a lot to talk about.. :o) and if you know me, you know that to be VERY true!!

This weekend my mom and Jay came over to set up Luke's present they bought him for his birthday.. They were here around 7:30am to start working on the project.. Why 7:30am you might ask??? Well the first reason is that we live in Texas and it gets HOT here pretty darn early in the day.. Second, they wanted it to be up before Luke woke up...

It didn't take us long to get it put up... Just a little over an hour (with 4 adults working on it).. Luke was pretty surprised when he woke up, but mostly because Memi and Papa were here :o) That was a great surprise for him!! He played on the toy for a little bit, but also wanted to show Memi and Papa all his other toys in the back yard..

Today I was reading one of my favorite blogs MckMama

I love this blog for many reasons: her honesty, her willingness to admit her faults, her beliefs, her photography, her sweet children, her stories, her writing abilities in general. I find myself laughing out loud while reading her blog.. crying while reading her blog.. admiring her strength.. questioning myself.. admiring her convictions..

Today she wrote on "Focus" and she reminded me of something very important. Something I often forget about, which shames me to admit. She reminded me that it can be life changing to focus only on the positives in life, the excellence of life, the joys, the accomplishments.. She reminded me to leave the negativity behind, don't pay too much attention to it.. Why?? Because it will eventually consume your every moment of every day.....and that is living in misery..

I recommend you read what she wrote.. It opened my eyes.. It made me reevaluate.. It made me recognize how at fault I am for not focusing more on the bright side..

3rd Anniversary

Bob and I celebrated our 3rd anniversary on May 26th. It's hard to believe how quickly 3 years has passed by. My sister came over on the 28th and watched the kiddos so that Bob and I could go out to dinner. He made reservations at 560 (the new Wolfgang Puck restaurant @ Reunion Tower). In a nutshell, it was beautiful.. The scenary, atmosphere, service and food.....all just beautiful!! Sadly I don't have a picture of us from that night, but I do have one that I love of the tower!!

So my baby girl "graduated" from 6th grade last week.. Which also means she graduated from elemnetary school and will be moving on to JUNIOR HIGH...

Emma got to participate in the Cluster Track Meet for her school this year. Every year the 4 elementary schools that will be going into Young Junior High hold a track meet for the 6th graders. Emma was in 4 competitions; 4x100m relay, distance race (800 meters), 4x400m relay and the soccer kick. The only one she didn't place in was the distance race, I think that was a little too much for her still. However she did get an idea on what to look forward to for junior high track meets. I figured I would take advantage of the opportunity to get a group of people together from high school, and it was a BLAST!! Lots of reminiscing and reconnecting! Most of the people I was able to reconnect with I found on Facebook. I was amazed at the community I found from my old stomping grounds.. Wonderful people that I have thought about over the years.. I saw a lot of them at the 10 yr reunion, but I had a lot of friends in different graduating classes.. So while the reunion was a great way to reconnect with my fellow classmates, this trip afforded me the opportunity to catch up with other friends I hadn't seen since leaving Colorado in 1993. I loved them all so much in high school (and I still do). High school was a wonderful time in my life. I lived in a beautiful state, went to school with the funnest people and was blessed with the most supportive group of friends.. Here are a few pictures from the evening:

Excited but anxious

So I have this problem with anxiety.. Years ago it was really bad, but as I get older I am learning how to cope with it on my own..(if only that were true for all my other faults {grin}) Anyhow...

Excitement: I am leaving for Colorado tomorrow, all by myself (no kids or hubby), for a little mini-vaca... My awesome cousin Caroline is graduating from CU (Boulder), so I am going up to help her celebrate this wonderful achievement!! I am meeting my parents up there, as well aunt/uncle/2 other cousins.. Boulder is a really beautiful town and the campus is stunning!! Can't wait for some cooler weather too.. I will be in Boulder for 2 days and then I am heading to Littleton, Colorado on Saturday. I went to highschool in Littleton and so on Saturday evening I am meeting up with about 30+ people for dinner.. Some of these people I haven't seen since highschool, some since our 10yr reunion, the rest I see often when I visit. I am really excited to see them all, catch up on lives, reminisce about old times, etc... Should be a ton of fun.. It is a short trip however so I will be home on Sunday..... No question that I will be EXHAUSTED when I get home...

Anxious: I am leaving for Colorado tomorrow {grin}... Now, I know that my children will be WELL taken care of.. My MIL and FIL are coming in to town to help out with the babes, which I am so thankful for.. But again, I am leaving my babes for 3.5 days and it just makes me anxious.. I know that when the hubby and Luke drop me off at the airport tomorrow I will be a blubbering mess, full of anxiety, nausious, stressed, etc...that is just me...that is just my personality.. While I am gone I will miss Emma's last choir concert for Elementary school and that saddens me.. I will also miss all of Mother's Day with my family (flight doesn't get in to DFW until 8:20pm).. I will miss hanging out with my MIL and FIL and celebrating Mother's Day and my MIL's b-day with the family.. I will miss my hubby terribly (I still don't sleep well away from him).. I will miss kissing my babes 100+ times a day.. I will miss baths, bedtime, cuddles, etc for 3.5 days.. I could go on and on, but won't!!

I am really thankful for this trip and for the time to myself (God knows I need it).. So I will try to stay positive and keep reminding myself that a LOT of fun awaits me in the beautiful COLORADO!!

Luke, without a doubt, LOVES his daddy. He lights up every evening when Bob walks through the door. Excitement fills this little boy's body when Bob says "Let's get your shoes and go outside". He loves to help Daddy in the yard and sweep the porch. If Daddy is doing it, then Luke wants to be doing it too. I love to watch these moments and try to capture as many as I can on film. This picture just melts my heart!! They are both just as happy as can be! I sure do love these boys!!

We had such a nice Easter Sunday (eventhough our family was missing one KEY member).. We spent our morning relaxing and enjoying some family time!! Then we had lunch with family and friends. Lunch was yummy, so was dessert :o) We did a little Easter Egg hunt for Luke and once he caught on to the idea, he was having a BLAST!! It was a wonderful time spent with family and friends, we can't wait until Easter next year when our family is complete again!! (We missed you Emma!!)

South Padres Island = FUN IN THE SUN

South Padres Island really does equal fun in the sun!! Especially when you have perfect weather, a comfortable place to stay, all the comforts of home, a heated pool, the list could go on and on!! We started our long weekend on Thursday.. Bob, Luke and I made the 9 hour drive down to Padres and Emma was lucky enough to fly down with my parents!! The trip down was pretty easy and really did not seem to take the 9 hours that it did.. Luke was really good in my opinion, only a few melt downs and when they would happen we would stop to give him a break..

We actually ended up beating my parents and Emma to the condo, however they were only an hour or so behind us.. The condo was beautiful and wouldn't you know, I didn't take any pictures of it :o( Oh well, my camera was focused on the beauty and fun of the beach!!

Our trip down came to be thanks to my husband.. He is a member of ASCE (America Society of Civil Engineers) and also an alum of the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). While at UTA he was involved in the building and racing of their concrete canoe for the ASCE competition. So as an ASCE member and UTA alum, he helped the students get ready this year for the competition which was held in South Padres Island. Once we had decided to go down for a long weekend, we asked my parents to join us. As well as come fellow engineers that went to school with my husband.

We had so much fun on this little get-away! It was a little exhausting (especially with the 18 hours of driving that took place in just 4 days) but it was well worth it! The kids LOVED the beach, although Luke would NOT have any part of it for about the first 2 hours. It took "Paw-Paw" to get him used to standing and playing in it and he loved it! He still was not going to have any part of the ocean, and I don't blame him! Those waves can be a little intimidating to and adult, just imagine what they look like to someone his size.. Emma, on the other hand, spent about 75% of her time in the water, which made her weekend PERFECT!!

I am currently getting everyone packed and meals cooked to head down to South Padres Island for the weekend.. We are looking SO forward to our weekend!! We leave bright and early Thursday morning (6am) and will be home on Sunday evening.. We have this GREAT condo that we are staying in that is right on the beach... 3 bedroom and 2 baths, full kitchen and the necessities!! Plus there is a pool at the condo as well as a hot tub and tennis courts!! CAN'T WAIT!!

I promise to post pictures from Emma's first boy/girl party and Padres pictures when we get home!! Hope everyone has a great rest of the week and weekend!!

It is hard to believe that my precious baby girl is 12 today.. It is hard to believe that she will be a teen in just one year... It is hard to believe that in just 6 very short years she could be moving out and starting her own life.......one that I will possibly not be a daily part of.... Oh the fear and worry that comes with that realization.......but also excitement, joy and hope for the wonderful future she has ahead of her.. I love my little "Emma" more than words could ever express properly!!

We're back from Austin.....

and boy did we have a GREAT time!! The drive down was quick and mostly traffic free.. The hotel was beyond my expectations.. 6th street is really different during the day.. In all of my visits to Austin, I have only been on 6th street @ night when it is crowded and full of fun....During the day is really different.....not much going on, not too crowded but still a lot of watching to do.... Our dinner was magnificent......a $49 steak....mouthwatering... BIG HEAD TODD.....yes, I was in heaven...they sounded perfect.....the atmosphere was perfect...weather was perfect......security - not so perfect...(they let me in with my camera, but once I started shooting - possibly in a not so hidden way- they took it away and made me delete all of my shots... BOOOOO)...oh well, I met Todd (lead singer) after the concert and got a picture with just him.....hubby loved the band and is a new fan for life.. Just two shots from the weekend.......one that didn't get deleted and one that was worth all the ones that had to be deleted!!!

We have officially 3 more days until the hubby and I head down to Austin, Texas... We are both SOOOO excited for our little mini-trip... First on the agenda is to check into the Hilton Hotel in Downtown Austin (gorgeous hotel).. We are then going to toodle around the area for a little while... We have dinner reservations at Finn & Porter (steak, seafood & sushi) which is inside the hotel.. Next it is off to see this wonderful band

This band is from Colorado and I grew up in high school LOVING their music.. I have never seen them in concert, but have it on good authority that they are amazing. I know a ton of their music so I WILL be singing along throughout the show!! Can't wait..

On Sunday we plan on sleeping in a little and then hopefully meeting up with some friends for breakfast/brunch/lunch before we have to head back to the DFW area to pick up kiddos. It is a short trip, but we are so happy to be getting away just for a little bit. This was/is my hubby's b-day present so we will also be celebrating that!! Hope everyone has fun plans for the weekend!!

This has been a tough week!! Bear (my brother dog) had to be put down.. Bear was the best dog EVER!! He loved to chase squirrels, open presents, eat treats, but most of all he LOVED his parents.. He would get SO depressed when his daddy would leave on trips! Bear will forever be in our hearts and memories!! And he will forever protect my parents backyard from squirrels :o) Rest In Peace my dear brother dog!!

Yesterday was my WONDERFUL hubby's 31st birthday!! I would like everyone to know just how fortunate I feel to be able to share my life with Bob!! He is such an understanding, loving, affectionate, attentive and adoring husband. Not a day goes by that he doesn't tell me and show me how much he loves me, I am so thankful for that. He is a great father and a great step-father. It takes a special person to step into the life of a child.......even more to love that child as if they were their own!! Bob is that special person for our blended family. I love my husband with all of my heart and look forward to the next 50+ years (God willing) together!!

Chicken Taco Soup is officially a new family favorite.. Everyone in my home (plus a friend of my daughters) is raving about this new dish that I found while perusing another blog!! I love finding recipes for great, simple, flavorful food.. Without further ado, here is the recipe:

Ingredients:
2 (10 ounce) cans of diced tomatoes with green chilies (rotel)
1 (15 ounce) can black beans
1 (15 ounce) can pinto or chili beans
1 (15 ounce) can corn (I use frozen corn)
1 (8 ounce) can of tomato sauce
1 (12 fluid ounce) of can or bottled beer (substitution can be 12 ounces of chicken broth)
1 chopped onion (I used half of an onion and 3 green onions, you could also use bell pepper)
1 package of dry taco seasoning
3 skinless, boneless chicken breast (I used breast tenderloins)
*Shredded Cheese (optional, to be used when soup is served)
*Sour Cream (optional, to be used when soup is served)
*Tortilla Chips (optional, to be used when soup is served)

Directions
Place rotel, beans, corn, tomato sauce, beer or chicken broth, onion and taco seasoning in crock pot (slow cooker) and stir. Lay chicken breasts on top and push down into soup so that the breast are submerged. Cook covered on low - med heat for 7 hours. Remove chicken breasts and let cool. Once cool, shred and stir back into soup. Continue cooking for 1 more hour on low heat. Then serve and enjoy............ (don't forget the extras, they make it even better)

I wasn't able to take a picture of the final outcome (had to go to class, so I didn't get to eat dinner with the family) but it looks almost as good as it tastes.. Also here is the blog I found the recipe on, we must give credit where credit is due... Thanks Mas & Sarah + Saylor!!!

So we are trying a new recipe tonight.. I love meals that require to cook all day, whether in the oven or the crockpot, I just love to smell them ALL DAY LONG!! Tonight we are trying a recipe that I found on another bloggers post.. It is called Chicken Taco Soup......kind of smells and looks like Tortilla Soup.. I am excited to eat this yummy smelling soup.. Will update tomorrow and let you know how it was.. If it is a yummy, must try recipe then I will link you to the blog I found it on!!

In other news, not too much has been happening around here.. I did attend my sister's sleep over and we had a really fun time and a TON of yummy goodies to snack on.. I also went last night to see "He's Just Not That Into You".. It was ok, not as funny as I though it would be......but it did have a lot of great actors in it.. My sister, Lisa and I did have a nice 'girl's night' out though....it is always nice to sit with your friends and just enjoy time with the girls!!

So yeah, back in December we went to see "Ice" @ The Gaylord.. We were amazed to see what they can do with ice, not to mention how COLD it was in there.. WOW.. It really isn't a big, long display but add in the massive amounts of people and it can take a little while to get through there.. My toes were almost frozen by the time we finished, yikes.. (I think they said it was about 9 degrees in there) Here are some shots of the sculptures..

So our quick trip to Waco was a SUCCESS!! Yes it was!! The weather was perfect the entire time we were there!! The zoo was a huge success for all the kids. It wasn't too crowded so Luke got to get out of the stroller and walk around a lot.....he LOVED this by the way.. He is becoming very independent, little booger!! Once we were done at the zoo we headed to our hotel and checked in.. Our room was perfect, it had a bedroom and a little living area with a door between the two.. Which is a God send when you have a little one who needs to always be in the action!! The girls swam in the indoor pool for a few hours, Luke napped and Bob and I vegged in front of the tv!! Such bliss!!

We then headed out to dinner @ Poppa Rollo's Pizza (thanks to a recommend from Brooke!!) and it was some darn good pizza!! We then took the kids bowling and they all had a blast.. Luke especially, since his daddy held him almost everyone he went up to bowl.. Luke started high-fiving Bob everytime he threw the ball.. Too cute for words. After bowling we got some ice cream and then headed back to the hotel..

Tuesday morning we got up and had a deluxe breakfast at the hotel and then got ready for a morning/afternoon of museums.. We headed first to the Dr Pepper Museum and it did not disappoint! Luke was in heaven when Mommy let him have his first sips of Dr Pepper!! After we stopped for a quick bite and then headed to the Texas Rangers Museum (law enforcement, not baseball).. That was a neat place too, but the kids were a little bored.. Sadly, we had to hit the road and head back to Arlington........but we all had an EXCELLENT time!!

I have SO many upcoming events that I can't wait for!! One of my resolutions this year was to start taking better care of me....so to start that off I enrolled in a jazz class with my mom.. It is taught by a dear friend of mine, and both mom and I are very excited!! Also coming up is a date night with my hubby.. We get so few of those these days, so we are very thankful when parents step in to take on our children (not to make them sound difficult, because they are really great kids)!! We will be heading out this Friday to the Granada in Dallas to see his uncle's band play!! I can't wait!!

Next on the agenda is a quick trip to Waco, Tx.. Emma is out of school this coming Monday and Tuesday, so we thought we would make a little trip out of town. Waco has a great Zoo (from what we hear) so that will be our first stop.. After that our plans are to find a neat place for dinner and then head to our hotel and swim in the indoor pool. Tuesday we are going to the Dr Pepper Museum, and I must admit that Emma is WAY excited about that. She is a true lover of anything DP! Be looking for pictures of our fun trip late next week!

Coming up in the month of Feb is a slumber party for my sister's birthday, yes we are taking it back "old-school" style!! Then a night out at the movies with another dear friend... To end off the month is my hubby's birthday!! We have a little trip planned for Austin to see a band that I love from Colorado!! Can't wait to see you Big Head Todd and the Monsters!

This year is already proving to be a GREAT one filled with love, family, friends, EXERCISE and taking better care of ME!! (really I am not selfish, I promise) Hope everyone else's year has started out as great as ours!!

Emma's social life has certainly gotten a lot more active lately.. It is rare that she is not at a friends house or their is one or more friends here.. I am glad that she has finally started spending more time with ALL of her friends.. It is fun to watch them interact, hear them talk about their woes and see them all grow from year to year!! We had a wonderful Thanksgiving this year. We headed up to Willburton/McAlester, Oklahoma to be with Bob's family. We were so thankful this year that Don, Meredith, Nora and Elsie were able to join us at the property. We don't get to see them often enough and Luke had a blast playing with his cousins!! We had a wonderful meal, great time with family and fun with friends.. Bob and his brother were able to attend the 15th annual (we think) Turkey Bowl with some old friends from their school days. They had a really good time and were keeping up pretty well with the younger ones. The kids had a great time while the daddies played flag football, but they had even more fun when the game was over and they could all tackle Don. We hope everyones Thanksgiving was as blessed as ours! Here are a few pictures from our time in Oklahoma!

So yes, I am a LOT slower than most.. Now that my new camera/memory card holds a million pictures, it takes me a little longer than normal to get them all where they need to be on the computer! Anyhow, enough excuses right?!?! So this was our first year to not Trick-or-Treat.. Emma had a Halloween party to go to and Luke just isn't really into it yet.. The kids still dressed up and I got some pictures of them.. Bob and I stayed in, had some of my family over for dinner and handed out candy to Trick-O'-Treaters.. It was all in all a fun time!!

Last year we started a new tradition with the Compton family and started rounding up people to play flag football on the Cowboy's bye-week! This was our second year to do it and let me just say that a fun time was had by all......even me, when I got suckered into playing. Thank goodness no pictures were taken while I was making an attempt to keep up with the boys and Emma.. I am not cut out to play this sport :o) (at least I can admit it, right)!! I have been debating on posting this, but thought "what the heck"!! Yesterday when I picked Emma up from school she had some news for me.. The boy that she has had a 6th grade crush on asked her to be his "girlfriend".. Now let me back up a little bit.. Last year Emma had a boyfriend or two and I wasn't too thrilled about it.. Especially since one of them decided to tell her that he only liked her to get closer to one of her friends (does this really start so soon??) So after a few heartbreaks last year Bob and I decided to have a little chat with her regarding boys..

We stressed how important it was to be a friend first and that if she could accomplish that now, it would help her in future relationships. We also stressed that at this age "boyfriends" were not necessary and that she would learn that in enough time..

Back to yesterday... So when she shared this news with me, I asked her what her response was.. "I told him that I had to ask my mom first"........ WHAT? Is this my daughter? I was beaming with pride!! Then I went on to have a discussion with her about what the word "boyfriend" means.. Her answer was that it meant being really good friends, talking on the phone and maybe going out on a date....WHOOOOO!! Back up the boyfriend train.. A date?? At 11?? I don't think so.. Then she said, with a parent of course.. You know mom, like dinner or a movie BUT with our parents.. Oh, ok I guess that may be a little more feasible..

After discussing this with Bob we agreed that since she was responsible enough to tell this little boy that she had to ask us first, that we would let her try it out again.. I know I may be in for some trouble with this, but we did put stipulations on her "relationship"..

Keep your fingers crossed that I don't regret this :o)

Fall Festival

This past week we joined Emma's dad, step-mom and other siblings for their churches Fall Festival.. It was held at Southlake's Dragon Stadium.. There were SO many events for the kids.. Rides, games, bounce houses, food, it was just a blast.. All the kids had a good time.. They even had a Toddler section that Luke enjoyed.. Luke was allowed his first sucker and he thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.. Here are some pics from the night...

"Num, Num" is what I always hear before, during and after dinner from my very appreciative little man.. He LOVES to eat and rarely turns down food.. You can get him to eat just about anything.. Favorites are: tomatoes, pasta salad, turkey, chicken, peas, corn, french fries, bananas, grapes, rice, carrots, and LASAGNA... It is always fun to watch him eat lasagna and see the mess that transpires from the enjoyment of his meal.......

Choir Cluster

Emma is a member of her school choir and just loves to sing.. Every year her school gets together with the 2 junior highs and the high school to do a Cluster Concert.. Last year she was not able attend, so she was very excited this year to make it there.. Her choir spends a few hours at the high school rehearsing in the morning and then they give a concert in the evening. It was a really good concert and I must say that I was really impressed with the Junior High choirs, not to mention the High School choir. I think Emma was impressed with how choir would change and grow as she gets older.. I hope she stays in the choir through high school..

Luke is finally walking

He didn't start crawling until he was 11 months old, so we were not expecting him to walk too soon after that but he finally figured it out.. It is so cute to see him waddle around the house.. So this was our 2nd annual trip to Austin, Texas with the Compton family.. Such fun times! We go down for a festival that comes to town and we always have a wonderful time.. The weather was beautiful, as always, and the kids love to be outside having fun.. Emma especially loves this festival because of all the entertainment they have!! The festival is called Tour de Fat......Bob, Emma and I actually happened upon this festival while in Colorado 3 years ago and we were immediately hooked.. When we found out last year that they were bringing it to Austin, we loaded up the car and down we went.. A good friend of my dad's has a condo in Austin and allows us to stay there for the weekend!! How much better can it get? We are so thankful for the condo, it lets our kids feel more like being at home then a hotel room would!! This year we were also joined by my sister and her boyfriend, as well as some friends of our that just moved back to Austin from the Seattle area!! Here are some pictures from the weekend!!

The annual Alumni Gala was earlier this month, and Bob and I were in attendance.. It is a really fun event for us to go to.. Bob is an alumni of UTA (University of Texas at Arlington) and he has been involved with the Student Alumni Association since he was in college.. The Alumni Gala is a night for us to get all dressed up and go to the campus for a nice dinner.. The reason for the gala is that every year UTA honors 10 Distinguished Alumni which are chosen by the individual schools of the college (i.e., School of Engineering, School of Nursing, etc) It is a really great event and we love being a part of it!! Lots of catch-up

I have been a BAD blogger lately!! Sorry about that!! I have a lot of catch-up to and hope to get it done in the next day or so.... For my first catch-up post we will start where we left off.. Along with the GREAT grades that Emma got on her report card we found out that Emma made the 6th grade volleyball team.. Now they only play one day, but it is a pretty big deal.. The gym teachers base their choices on skill, good behavior, sportsmanship and overall attitude... The gym teachers choose enough players to make up 2 teams and Emma made it!! She was WAY more excited about this then her grades (go figure)... So the teams take an afternoon off from class and play 3 games.. It goes a little like this:

1st game: Team 1 against the staff (consisting of what teachers are willing to play)
2nd game: Team 2 against the staff
3rd game: Team 1 against Team 2

So for game 1 Emma's team played the staff and won.. Then team 2 played the staff and won... The Team 1 (Emma's team) and Team 2 played and Team 2 won!! All in all it was a fun time.. Luke had a blast playing in the grass with Daddy...and Mommy had fun taking pictures while Emma had fun playing and cheering.. Emma was a little upset that she never got to serve....Oh well.................we can't do it all!!!!

Woo Hoo!! Emma got straight A's her first 6 weeks of school!! We are SO very proud of her!! This happened with little help from mom (trying to teach responsibility) and a lot of hard work on her part!! She also found out today that she made the 6th grade volleyball team.. They only play one game and it's against the staff.......but it is a big deal that she was selected!! All in all, today was a GREAT day for Emma :o)

So here I am, just a few minutes later, after posting my exciting news!! I mentioned in the post that I had sent Gary Cogill an email about the tickets and that I would probably not get a response.........................Well, put my foot in my mouth because I DID get a response :o) What a nice man to take time out and email a crazy contest winner back...hhahahhahah

Although he didn't have my answer for me, he did give me a name and number to call! What a nice man he is!! I will start paying more attention to his movie reviews now!!!!
